Book Review: "Here's Lily" by Nancy Rue

I recently received a complimentary copy of the book "Here's Lily" by Nancy Rue from Thomas Nelson Publishing as part of the Booksneeze book review program.  The opinions below are my honest opinions of the book.

This series of books titled "The Lily Series" has not only these fun fiction stories but also nonfiction books about coming of age to help young girls as well.  This story is the story of Lily Robbins, a sometimes awkward sixth grader, who loves school and her friends.  Things begin to change when a model agent comes to speak to the girls about makeup and fashion and compliments Lily on her looks and offers her a modeling job.  Lily begins to become obsessed over her looks and forgets about the things that were once important to her including some friends and school.  Something happens the night before the fashion show she was supposed to be in and it causes her to learn an invaluable lesson on what's really important in life.  This series is a great one for young girls who are feeling that awkwardness of growing up and trying to find their way in life.  It is encouraging and also has Bible lessons sprinkled throughout.  My daughter is seven and this what a bit over her head but she still enjoyed me reading it to her each night as we discussed some of the issues mentioned.  We will hang onto the book for when she is older and I am certain that she will love it then!!

Book Review "Bringing Up Girls" by Dr. James Dobson

I recently received a complimentary copy of the book "Bringing up Girls" by Dr. James Dobson from Tyndale House Publishers as part of their book review program. The opinions below are my personal opinions of the book and I received no compensation for my review.

Dr. James Dobson began this journey by writing the famous book "Bringing up Boys." He then wrote this book to help out all the parents raising the next generation of young women. This book is written in a down to earth way to help parents understand the heart and mind of their daughters. Whether your daughters are little girls or young teenagers this book is a wonderful tool to help encourage you in your walk of parenthood. In today's society we have so many negative things influencing our girls and this book gives practical advice for helping steer them in the right direction. We all want our daughters to excel in life and be successful women and this book is a great go-to book for answers to go along with our study of the Bible and what God has to say in raising our children. I have two beautiful daughters myself and I am positive I will be rereading this book for years to come.

Book Review "Selections From One Thousand Gifts" by Ann Voskamp

I was recently given the opportunity to review the book "Selections from One Thousand Gifts: Finding Joy in what really matters" by Ann Voskamp from Zondervan Publishing. The opinions below are my honest opinions of the book. In Ann Voskamp's best-selling book "One Thousand Gifts," she takes the reader through her discovery of being thankful to God for all the little things even when things are not going well in our lives. This beautiful, little gift book has selections from "One Thousand Gifts." It is written with beautiful photography on each page taken by Ann herself. She makes the reader think and realize how even in hard, dark times we need to have gratitude and joy no matter what. She began writing a journal with one thousand things she was thankful for and her life changed as she began living a life of gratitude no matter her circumstances. This book would be perfect for anyone in your life that you are wanting to encourage. It changes your outlook on life and makes you really think of all we need to be thankful for.

Book Review: "A Heart Like His" by Beth Moore

I recently received a complimentary copy of "A Heart Like His" by Beth Moore from B & H Publishing for a book review. The opinions below are my honest opinion of the book. I have read many of Beth Moore's books and "A Heart Like His" was no disappointment. This book takes the reader into the life of David, a man after God's own heart. David was much like many of us today in that he lived an ordinary life, lived in sin for a time, and later became King of Israel and loved the Lord with all of his heart. Beth Moore writes in a way that the reader can relate to David in his walk with the Lord and the obstacles he overcame to come closer to God. Moore also teaches the reader how to understand more how God holds a special place in His heart for each of us and how we can better love and serve our God. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking to do a study on David and grow closer to the Lord.

Book Review: "Anything" by Jennie Allen

I was recently sent a complimentary copy of the book "Anything" by Jennie Allen from Thomas Nelson Publishing. This is the same author that wrote the Bible study I reviewed not long ago, "Stuck." Jennie is a Bible teacher who has a heart for God's Word and a heart for women. In this new book, "Anything," Jennie and her husband pray a very courageous prayer. Tired of the same old day in and day out life where things are safe and comfortable, they decide to pray together one night and this one prayer changes everything. It was a simple prayer of "God we will do ANYTHING." God loves those who fully surrender their hearts and lives to Him. We should be living as if God is our everything and give ourselves fully to Him every day. This prayer of surrender they prayed changed them personally, their families, and their church in ways they never thought possible. They went from living safe and happy lives, to living surrendered and courageous lives for God. If we would give our lives to God fully in surrender without reserve, God can then accomplish all His plans for our lives!! I really enjoyed the chance to read this book and review it. I would recommend it to all women looking to live a life fully surrendered to God.

DVD Review: "Three Hearts"

I recently received a complimentary copy of the DVD "Three Hearts" from Thomas Nelson Publishing as part of the Booksneeze book review program. The opinions below are my honest opinions of the movie. In this wonderful movie, Cissie Graham Lynch, the granddaughter of Billy Graham, goes on an incredible journey. Through the Children's Heart Project she is able to travel to Mongolia to help bring three children to America to repair their congenital heart defects, that if not treated will result in death. This documentary style movie shows all of the steps taken to travel to Mongolia and get these children to the hospital in Texas where their surgeries will take place. Two host families in Texas also participate in this journey by keeping the children in their homes to care for them and also their mothers. These nurses and doctors volunteer to save the lives of these three children. I have a cousin who has two children who were born with deadly congenital heart defects. They are blessed enough to get immediate treatment because they live in America. This story truly touched me to watch the lengths that Children's Heart Project goes to in order to save these children's lives. Wonderful movie!!

Book Review and Giveaway: "Miracle for Jen" by Linda Barrick

I recently received a complimentary copy of the book "Miracle for Jen" by Linda Barrick from Tyndale House Publishers as part of their book review program. The opinions below are my honest opinion of the book and I was in no way paid for my opinion.

"Miracle for Jen" is the true story of Jennifer Barrick who at the age of 15 years old experienced something tragic that would change her and her family's lives forever. As the family was driving home from church, a drunk driver slammed into their van at 80 miles per hour. Everyone was hurt very badly; however, Jennifer was by far the worst one. She lay in a coma for 5 long weeks as her family prayed for her to come back to them. Once she did finally awake from her coma, she could not remember her family, middle name, or anything that had happened. All she could remember and speak of was Bible verses and praises of Jesus her Lord and Saviour. Her mother had prayed for her to awake "normal, " but she quickly realized God had amazing plans for Jennifer. This is such an amazing true story of hope, faith, and love. It is a miraculous story as well and the book includes pictures in the middles. It is amazing once you see the vehicle that Jen is even alive. You can read the first chapter at this link on the right side under product resources. Also, I will be giving away a copy of the book in the form of a gift certificate. You take the certificate to your local Christian bookstore to receive the book. The giveaway will be open from today until March 9th at 10:00pm. The winner will be notified via email. Good Luck to all her enter!!
